DATTO PANT THENGADI: TORCH BEARER OF SWADESHI
Datto Pant Thengadi, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh founder, passed away at Pune on 14th of October. He was the main guiding force behind massive movement against exploitative and imperialist world trade regime and forces of globalization.
Born at Arvi, a village in Wardha District, on November 10, 1920, Thengdi also worked as a Member of Rajya Sabha from 1964 to 1976.
He was the Vajpayee governments' worst critic. In 2001, the former PM even threatened to step down when Thengadi criticised Yashwant Sinha, then Finance Minister. Respected as a senior RSS ideologue, Thengadi refused to accept the Padmshri offered by the Vajpayee government on the ground that many senior to him deserved higher awards.
His contribution towards the trade union movement will be remembered for times to come, as he changed the course of trade union movement by inculcating the spirit of nationalism among the workers. Datto Pant also founded organizations like Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Swadeshi Jagaran Manch etc.
On literature front, he wrote books like 'Ekatma Manav Darshan', 'Vichar Sutra', 'Communism–Apani Hi Kasoti Par' in Hindi and 'Nationalisation or Governmentalisation', 'Focus on socio Economic Problems' ' Perspective' in English as well.(Copyright ©2004 www.mediabharti.com . All rights reserved)
